Gunnison Update

As we enter into the 13th week of anticipation about the possible move to Colorado, I thought I'd post an update.

Last I posted, Steve's resume was en route to the hiring official in Gunnison, CO. Since then, Steve has had an interview. That was 1-1/2 weeks ago. The interview went very well. He's up against 2 other fellows.

The hiring official said, 1-1/2 weeks ago, that it would likely be 2 more weeks before a decision was announced. References had to be contacted & preliminary background checks needed to be done. Two of Steve's references have called us and said they had very lengthy phone calls with the Supervisor. Good news there!

Well, this Thursday will be the 2 week mark. We are so very hopeful to hear a decision this week. This waiting & waiting has zapped us. We are running on fumes now.

Some very good news, behind the scenes, is that we may have found a family from Minnesota that is interested in buying our hobby farm. It's the location, price, acreage, & house size that they're looking for. The wife is taking a job with the animal hospital in town, I'm not sure what the hubby does. It would be such a blessing to have our property here sell! God is so good.

And check out His handiwork! This is the Powderhorn Wilderness, just a hop skip and a jump from the area we hope to buy land.

WOW!

Why the Tax Assessor Is Not Welcome Here

I just read an article about property taxes, and it makes me want to move all the more!

Based on data from 2007, a Gunnison County (Colorado) home, valued @ $750,000 has a property tax bill that is a 1000 dollars less than what Steve & I pay now to live in Wisconsin.

The next person that tells me that Colorado is so expensive is going to get a copy of that article, along with my tax bill.

Hmmm, lets see....

Algae green lakes & outrageous property taxes

or

The Rocky Mountains & not-quite-so-outrageous taxes

Guess which one I'd choose?

Always Good for a Laugh

Steve just reminded me of something Mudge said months ago.

It was during the bedtime routine, and she was supposed to be brushing her teeth.

I watched her wet down her toothbrush, ignore the toothpaste, brush her teeth, rinse, and then put away her toothbrush.

I asked her if she had forgotten anything. She paused, thought a bit, and said, "nope!"

I asked, "well, what about the toothpaste?"

She replied, "I don't like this toothpaste. It freaks me out."

So, now Steve & I have a running joke that if you don't particularly care for something, it "freaks you out".

That Mudge is always good for a laugh!

From the Archives 2/15/06

I really needed a pick-me-up (see previous post), so I went looking through my archives to find this post.

I really needed to see this little smiling face. Thanks Joe!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From Feb. 2006
You know those days when you feel like the sky is falling, and nothing else could possibly go wrong?!! Well, I have a secret weapon for those days. It's a little pick-me-up that I allow myself. I walk over to the refridgerator and take a look at a picture of my brother-in-law, as a child. It has NEVER failed to give me a chuckle. Come to think of it, he's still like that as an adult. He can always make me laugh. Thanks Joe!
ps: I know I said I'd never blog this photo........
I lied.
Waiting to Exhale
You know that feeling you get when you jump off the dock, or side of the pool, into really deep water?
You had taken in that last, deep breath and leaped!
And then there's that period of time that you're under water, feeling a little anxious about getting back to the surface.....
Go ahead, close your eyes, imagine it for a moment, I'll wait.
If that water was deep enough, you'll kick to get back up, just break the surface, let out a huge breath, and then take in a huge breath. Whew! What a relief it is to be breathing again!
That underwater feeling... that's where I'm at right now, but I sense the surface drawing near.
We found out today that Steve's resume for the Colorado job has finally left Denver and has been forwarded to the hiring office in Gunnison.
We also found out....He's made the cut, and in the running!
I will be so relieved to exhale.
Please pray for us.
